Nigel De Jong has played with the likes of AC Milan star Zlatan Ibrahimovic, ex-Liverpool skipper cum current Rangers boss Steven Gerrard and many more quality players during hislong career. In addition, he also managed the silver medal and the bronze medal at the FIFA World Cup tournament, widely regarded as the pinnacle of any player’s career. He won the medals with the Netherlands at the 2010 and 2014 editions. Nigel De Jong was part of the Dutch squad that finished as runners-up at the 2010 FIFA World Cup tournament on African soil. South Africa hosted the tournament and the Netherlands were second behind Spain at the end of the tournament.
De Jong made the headlines in the final after his high kick on Spanish player Xabi Alonso was not punished by Howard Webb, the English centre referee. Andreas Iniesta scored the winning goal in extra time to give Spain their one and only World Cup title via a 1-0 win. Nigel De Jong was also part of the team that finished third at the next FIFA World Cup tournament in Brazil.
