Although Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is yet to win the UEFA Champions League title at Manchester City, it would be agreed by a great number of people that he singlehandedly initiated a huge transformation at the club. The European title is the only prestigious triphy that he is yet to help the club win and according to a lot of people, that is still the missing piece to his jigsaw. One of the people who believe that the Spanish tactician should take all the credits and plaudits for upgrading City’s identity is the club’s former player, Nigel de Jong.
Pep was responsible for allowing a lot of players leave City and gradually built his own team with his own group of players with elite attacking mindsets. He brought a lot of outstanding and exciting players to the Etihad Stadium and some of these players include Kevin de Bruyne, Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling, Joao Cancelo, Kyle Walker, goalkeeper Ederson, Gabriel Jesus, Ferran Torres & Leroy Same (both of whom have joined Barcelona and Bayern Munich respectively), Bernardo Silva, most recently, Jack Grealish, and a lot of others.
De Jong says that Guardiola’s ability to spot exciting and remarkable players makes him standout as one of the greatest managers in football and also added that the former Bayern boss still has the chance to bright the UCL to thr Etihad.
